International Mixed Ability Sports proudly accepted the ‘Try for Change’ award at a special ceremony held at Twickenham on 29th May 2016. The award presented by RFU President Jason Leonard recognises that IMAS is successfully using the game as a vehicle for social change and is transforming lives and communities. England Rugby highlighted the “supportive process ti share resources, best practice, experiences, ideas, policies and procedures to facilitate rugby for disabled people.”
IMAS Director Martino Corazza commented “it is the inclusion and involvement of disabled and non-disabled players throughout the development and expansion of Mixed Ability Rugby that adds so much value.” Co-founder Mark Goodwin added “Many of the clubs who attended approached us with an interest in starting Mixed Ability Teams to build on the fantastic work they are already doing. There were so many worthy individuals and organisations at the ceremony, it was an absolute honor to win the award.”
IMAS will continue to help to set up new MA Teams directly into grassroots clubs across England and offer support and guidance to existing teams. Mark added “we are already working on an updated guide with new submissions from referees, players and those who’s lives have been positively affected by being involved in our great game.”
