Partnership brings “listening ear” for Mixed Ability players.

International Mixed Ability Sports are delighted to announce that they have teamed up with registered charity Sports Chaplaincy UK (SCUK). The partnership will see Mixed Ability clubs and their players have the opportunity to access additional support outside of their sport, having a route and clear signposting to a Sports Chaplain in their community.

Sir Ian McGeechan OBE and former Head Coach of the British and Irish Lions said “Chaplaincy brings a personal touch – people feel they can be listened to as individuals. If chaplaincy was established in every club, I believe it would be of huge benefit to the game as a whole.”

Over 25 years, with a network approaching 600 chaplains across the UK, Sports Chaplaincy UK have developed good relationships with National Sporting Governing bodies and clubs as they seek to offer pastoral support, direction and signposting to all”

CEO Warren Evans said,“Chaplains are extremely supportive in the range of sports where they bring a non-judgmental, listening ear and an empathic presence to those who hold a faith and those who do not.” He added, “With over 25 million people engaged in sport it is more than an activity; sport is a community of people. Sports chaplaincy is simply a practical expression of love and compassion to that community and we look forward to developing our partnership with IMAS.”

IMAS Director Mark Goodwin said “whatever our ability we are all likely to experience some difficulties in our lives at some point. Sports chaplains are experienced in guiding people to the right support service, whether they have experienced a bereavement, are coping with an addiction or recovering from poor mental health. Chaplains can also provide vital links to local community schemes including homeless projects and food banks. This is an excellent initiative to assist our participants when they are most vulnerable.”
